Probably a Wise Move for Someone Rumored to Be a Possible Science Advisor

Over at A Vote for Science, Michael Stebbins blogs about Francis Collins' endorsement of Barack Obama. While that's not much of a surprise, Stebbins says the op-ed piece Collins wrote is "perhaps the most reasoned and dignified explanation of a political endorsement that I have ever read." The newspaper hasn't made the column available online, but Stebbins links to a scanned copy if you'd like to read it.

R.e. your somewhat snarky title "probably a wise move for someone rumored...": endorsing the candidate who is promising a return to evidence-based decision-making, and is strongly supportive of science and science education is a wise move for ANY scientist. Particularly given that we are faced with the alternative of a presidential ticket that includes a creationist and seems likely to continue the beating that science has taken at the hands of the current administration. This election is going to affect all scientists.
